I have more than 3 years of experience as a senior associate in Technology Risk Consulting Practice at PwC. In the short term, I aspire to work as a Management Consultant at a top-tier consulting firm to work within the Digital Transformation space. In the long term, I aim to reduce the economic and social divide in India by supporting the government to enable digital transformation and penetration in Indian society. To achieve the goal, I want to broaden my perspective and groom myself as a leading expert in the digital transformation and technology risk consulting space.

While working in the Technology Risk Consulting Practice at PwC for more than 3 years, I have developed excellent client handling skills, technical proficiency, and project management skills. I have worked with more than twelve clients on engagements such as reducing customer complaints due to customer data leakage by 80%. I have helped client’s in achieving ISO 27001 certification in less than 3 months. As a Senior Associate, I have also led a team of two to three associates and managed client engagements independently.

However, I believe in order to advance my career further in the consulting domain, I need to hone my leadership skills, learn from diverse individuals and gain international experience. The Leadership course at Warwick can help me re-evaluate the way I think, plan, lead and work in teams. Courses such as Behavioral Strategy and Leading for Innovation, which imbibes learning from the behavioral science discipline, can help me understand what makes individuals make rational and irrational decisions. Furthermore, The Immersion program can provide me with opportunities to interact with foreign industry leaders and visit the leading industries and seek opportunities.

After, talking to various students and Alumni, I feel that Warwick is the place where I will enjoy the cultural diversity, close community, atmosphere to collaborate, and unique geographical location. It will groom me as a holistic leader and compassionate individual in a short amount of time and that is why I think it is a perfect fit for me to achieve my desired learning from an MBA program.

Since 2016, I have been working in the Technology Risk Consulting practice within PwC.  This practice specializes in Cyber Risk Consulting, Cyber Technology implementation, and the Data Privacy domain. In 2017, our partner strategized to primarily focus on the Financial service sector to achieve 70% of our revenue. Our key objectives were to establish client engagements that can cover up to 50% of our practice’s revenue through repeat business and PWC should become the “Go-to” practice for Financial services clients.

I have been supporting my partner’s vision by leading more than 10 engagements over a period of twenty months at one of the leading finance and investment service companies in India. As a team, we highlighted 200+ high-risk observations to the management and conducted Information security awareness workshops for more than 1000 employees. This helped us achieve zero non-compliance in ISO 27001 certification audit.

In 20XX, we saw heavy attrition in our team and our manager also left the practice. I took the opportunity to step up and lead the weekly review meetings with the chief information security officer. This gave me exposure to senior leadership where I displayed the impactful results my team has delivered within stringent timelines.

Senior leadership recognized my contributions and gave me the opportunity to lead and set up a Technology Risk Consulting team in Chennai. I helped the Managers in shortlisting profiles from a pool of over 100+ applicants and conducted interviews for all shortlisted candidates. I voluntarily choose to become the buddy of the three new joiners. These experiences gave me the opportunity not only to leave a positive long-lasting impact on my partner’s vision but also to develop myself into a future leader who knows how to hire and develop the best teams for practice.

Warwick MBA Essay 1: Describe the short and long-term career goals you have set yourself and how the WBS MBA will help you to achieve these? Please limit your response to 350 words

My immediate post-MBA goal is an Operations and Supply-Chain Management role with a prominent firm like GE Power. In the long-term, I will grow through the managerial hierarchy to take up a strategic leadership position in the operations domain.

The first four years of my career in NTPC’s Operations domain enabled me to grasp on-field operational and technical competencies, and crisis management skills. As part of the commissioning team in my latter tenure, I handled several pre-commercialization activities and evolved to a people’s manager role. In due course, I developed a fascination with strategic aspects of operation management and the larger spectrum of functional planes that must cooperate to make the business viable and robust. Moreover, I have realized the criticality of the supply chain function in the success of an enterprise. The Covid-19 era has strengthened my conviction while it has also exposed the scope of optimization in this domain.

Also, while working with consultants from Doosan, Hitachi, and Yokogawa during the erection phase of the Lara plant, I was inspired by their higher-order thinking, finer people-management, and decision-making skills. Hence, to successfully achieve my future-goals I must learn the holistic financial, strategic, and sales aspects of an enterprise. I believe that a formal MBA can best address these gaps and after extensive research, I believe, Warwick best suits these requirements.

A comprehensive set of modules, with electives such as Operations Management, taught by stalwart professors like Steve Alpern and Mark Johnson will introduce me to the several business administration nuances while the International Business and  Strategic Leadership Development module taught by well-known international faculty will be the touchstone to my strategic-skills growth. I plan to leverage the Overseas Trip to learn different cultural and community perspectives. Moreover, the LeadershipPlus module will sharpen my leadership abilities which will, in turn, help me to thrive in a cross-border multicultural environment. Besides, the Consultancy Project will help me to immerse myself in real-world business problems. The diverse cohort, esteemed faculty, and alumni base set Warwick apart as an exceptional brand that I want to earn.

NTPC was established on 7th November 1975 by the Government of India to provide a cheap power supply throughout India. It was formerly known as National Thermal Power Corporation and it started its first project in Singrauli, Uttar Pradesh in 1976, where I got the golden opportunity to be familiarised with the philosophy of coal-fired power plants. But with changing times and trends the company gradually diversified into hydro and nuclear-based power generation along with backward integration by coal mining. Hence in 2015, the name changed from “National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd.” to “NTPC Ltd”.

Today out of approximately 378GW installed capacity of India NTPC alone has 62910MW capacity and it has generated 25% of the total Generation of India with just 16% installed capacity to share in the last financial year. Undoubtedly, NTPC is the largest power producer in India and the second largest independent power producer in Asia. It has been possible because of its strategic investment and acquisition of old underperforming plants to turn them into efficient technically upgraded ones.

When I joined Farakka in February 2014 I was part of the renovation team of 500MW capacity Unit-4 and in 2016 I carried out the Renovation of Unit No.5. Thus during my four years in Farakka, I directly contributed to the resurrection of 15 old units. In 2018, I was transferred to Lara, Chhattisgarh site which was yet to be commercialized at that time. The supercritical units have the latest automation philosophy, ensuring the cheapest electricity. I became a member of the commissioning team and within two years we have commercialized it fully.

Thus during my 7 years in NTPC, I have always been a part of my company’s growth and my motivation and skills have always aligned with NTPC’s mission to provide reliable power to energize India’s growth.

My professional experience in India’s Oil and Gas industry has given me a ringside view of the industry’s challenges globally over the past four years.  After working as a Product Engineer in the Oil and Gas Industry, my immediate goal post-MBA is to join a global management consulting firm such as Deloitte or Accenture in its Oil and Gas consulting domain. In due course, I would learn to solve sophisticated business problems, optimize the business processes by working on real-time projects, and get the relevant experience in a truly international setup to march towards my long-term goal.

My long-term goal is to come back to India and contribute to India’s growth initiative and lead the transformation of the Oil and Gas behemoths with my own consulting firm.

Having the unique opportunity to work with leading Oil and Gas industry giants such as Schlumberger and TechnipFMC, I have amassed fundamental technical and analytical knowledge coupled with client-facing skills and industry problem-solving techniques. Simultaneously, I developed team-management and cross-functional working skills to justify my future aspirations. However, I believe that a formal MBA can definitely provide me with the required nudge towards my goals through the higher-order strategic, operational, and financial skills combined with tremendous international exposure.

After extensive deliberation and conversations with alumni, I believe that WBS best suits my requirements. At WBS, the rigorous and challenging program with unique modules such as LeadershipPlus and Operations Management coupled with electives such as Global Business, Strategy & Practice, and Management & Leadership will bridge the gaps and prepare me to be the change maker. The live consultancy project and case competitions will give me practical exposure, and with the help of the CareerPlus team at WBS, I will be able to navigate towards my objectives. Apart from the MBA rigors, I hope to become a member of the Warwick Consulting Society, India forum, and Warwick Badminton Club. With its rich heritage, commendable faculty, and peer group, one year spent at WBS will be the best possible launchpad for my goals of making a difference to my own and to India’s growth story.

TechnipFMC is a global leader in the energy industry, delivering projects, products, technologies, and services. Oil and Gas is a complex industry consisting of a complex portfolio of products and services which are very customer-centric, and the degree of standardization is not profound. However, in the current market situation, the organization’s top strategic objectives are striving towards standardization and simplification to reduce lead times and costs. Also, the decline in oil prices over the years has emphasized greater importance in strengthening customer relationships.

I work for the TechnipFMC Hyderabad center that provides engineering services to all the global manufacturing and testing centers. Our objective is to align and achieve the standardization required and strengthen customer relationships through innovation and cost-effective solutions. I always strive to accomplish my tasks in alignment with FMC’s strategic goals. Following are specific instances that illustrate the same.

I executed a detailed design project to develop a standardized shop-floor test tool by reusing field-proven old parts. This project reduced the overall cost of the tool by 40%. It also set a benchmark for all future projects in the same genre and helped us as a team to fulfill the crucial objective of standardization.

During the coronavirus pandemic, I also performed an RCA to solve a critical issue for one of our major clients that helped them in saving 60000 USD. The RCA turned out to be a major lesson learned for us and the client, and it enabled both of us to eradicate the same error in future projects and forged a more substantial relationship during a time of crisis. As a result, we were awarded a key project by the same client the next year.

Hence, I work towards optimization of the industry operations and processes, setting industry benchmarks while building strong relationships with clients.
