Kellogg MBA Interview Question – 4

Thought I should post my interview experience. I’m an international applicant based out of the US and I submitted my application a couple of weeks before the deadline. My interview was taken by an alum. Interview was very conversational and she asked a lot of follow-up questions. Some of the questions asked were:

1.Why MBA
2.Why Kellogg
3.What do i currently do outside of work
4.Leadership experience
5.Conflict resolution
6.What courses/clubs I would be interested in after coming to Kellogg etc.

She kept writing a lot of notes as I answered all her questions. It is good to prepare for all probable questions in advance as a lot of them would be asked during the interview.

Kellogg MBA Interview Question – 5

I got asked about a personal weakness, not just application, but still similar question. I don’t think there is a “right” or “good” answer, answer truthfully. Then try to explain that you are aware of this weakness and either are currently or planning on working on it. I think a huge sign of maturity is being able to clearly identify a small area of weakness and have some example to back it up.

Regardless all the possible problems in the conversation, I could fairly say that this is my best interview so far. The interviewer was very straightforward and friendly. We had a constructive conversation, no condescension, no traps. He was not trying to challenge me or corner me with some humiliating questions. He was very supportive, candor, and respectful. The whole process was very consistent with what I always expect from Kellogg graduates.

Kellogg MBA Interview Question – 6

My interview lasted 50 minutes, with a 2011 alumni. He runs a start-up and was really laid back. Got the general questions:

1.Walkthrough resume
2.Why Kellogg
3.Why MBA
4.Long and short career plans
5.Ethical issues
6.Biggest failures

I was asked a lot of follow-ups and would deep-dive into a lot of answers, but remained friendly. Overall conversational, no real surprises

Kellogg MBA Interview Question – 7

For my interview which I had recently on campus they focused on the following:

1.Initial explanation of my positions. Since I am a nonstandard applicant they wanted details and explanation of selectivity for each position.
2.Why an MBA
3.Short and long term goals
4.How co-workers describe you, good and bad
5.Extra curriculars

They then switched to ask more leadership questions

1.How leadership style has changed throughout career
2.Explain a time where you were resilent as a leader
3.Anything else we should know.

Be prepared for questions on your leadership and have some solid examples of each. Should be easy since you have your whole application to pull from so reinforcing those examples probably would help as it strengthens them with a fresh perspective. The interviewer will not be reviewing your application before or after so keep that in mind as you prepare. Of course who is interviewing you matters too. As long as you practice the questions available from the debriefs from various sites and the ones above you should do great. Best of luck to everyone going for the interview!

Kellogg MBA Interview Question – 8

“My interview was during the polar vortex (-20F) on campus in Chicago, so that created an interesting dynamic and conversation starter!

I was interviewed by a senior admissions member for 30 minutes. The interview was very warm and casual. She let me know as soon as we started that the interview was blind, in that she has not seen anything in my application. It started off with the “Tell me about yourself” prompt but quickly became more natural after that. The questions flowed very well with our dialogue. They weren’t direct questions since they were leading off from my answers, so I’ll try my best to summarize the questions she was asking.

1.Tell me about yourself (I used this to not talk about my resume and more about myself personally).
2.Walk me through your resume (Next four questions were lumped into one answer for me since it was more conversational but I could tell this was what she was interested in).
3.Why MBA now? Why Kellogg? Short-term/Long-term goals with MBA.
4.What role do you play in a group setting/group project? (I really enjoyed this question since it was different)
5.Tell me about a time you lead a team.
6.How would your friends describe you?
7.What clubs would you like to join?
8.Any questions for her?

I highly recommend focusing on having strong examples of teamwork and leadership since I could tell this was a huge component of their questions and answers they were looking. Also what sets them apart from other schools.

During our banter, I asked several questions naturally between these “questions” and provided information in that direction as well. Such as, what classes I would like to take. I asked her what clubs Kellogg offered that are geared towards the start-up industry, since majority of my background is that, while we were on the “Why Kellogg?” part. She was very interested in the companies I had worked for along with the stories I had so we chatted about that heavily. I was able to naturally add stories in that were able to answer a lot of her questions organically with true enthusiasm due to her natural interest.

I definitely recommend emphasizing why you want Kellogg specifically and knowing what makes them stand apart from the others, and coming prepared with questions that show a specific genuine interest deeper than just information you can find online about the program. Find a club or professor/class that interests you! Also knowing what you can contribute and provide to their program as well. I specifically spoke with several Kellogg alumni and attended several events to find the answers to these questions, and to create a better picture of what student life would truly be like if I were to attend.

Overall, I was genuinely interested since she was very warm and easy to speak to, so the conversation flowed very well and it was highly enjoyable. One of my more enjoyable interviews from the schools I interviewed at! Good luck, everyone!”

Kellogg MBA Interview Question – 9

I got my interview invite about a week after the 2nd round deadline. My interviewer was super responsive to my emails and mentioned during the interview that most of the alum registered to be admission interviewers because they actually enjoy doing it.

As mentioned by other people on this platform, the interview was very casual and conversational. It was conducted in a coffee shop (of my choice). The flow of the interview was natural, starting with a standard WMTYR, then a lot of follow-up questions on what I mentioned in the resume, then based on my past experiences, what do I expect to develop in a (Kellogg) MBA. My interviewer was a very nice person and seemed genuinely interested in what I had to say. My questions were as follows:

  1. Walk me through your resume.
  2. Why did you choose your undergrad major?
  3. Some questions about my undergrad extra-curricular, like what was the organization for, what leadership role I had within the organization, what was the composition of my teams, etc. The interviewer was from my industry ((Corporate) Finance) so he asked a lot of detailed questions about some of the academic clubs I was in (for example, “What valuation method did you use for the pricing research?”, etc.)
  4. Questions about what did/do I do at my jobs. This went on for more than 30 minutes as he was very specific with lots of follow-up about my companies’ organization chart, how many people from other departments do I have to interact with on a weekly basis, what reports do I have to produce and on what frequency. You get the idea.
  5. Why did I make some career choices (resign/change function, etc.)
  6. He noticed a weakness in my past experience (being in large and mature organizations, I have limited chances for big promotions), so a question about what have I done to compensate for that.
  7. What is my post-MBA career goal? How can Kellogg help me to achieve that? Why MBA? Why now? Why Kellogg?
  8. Any question for him? Overall the interview lasted for about 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Towards the end my interviewer got very excited when I asked some questions about his personal experience at Kellogg (“It was the best 2 years of my life”).

He got me very excited about the school. I left the interview feeling pretty good, even though I felt like I could have done a better job on some questions. Well, that’s life. Good luck with your interview!”

Kellogg MBA Interview Question – 10

It was a skype interview taken by an AdCom. My interviewer was a very nice lady and helped me bring out my whole profile to the table. It was very conversational. She asked me a mix bag of questions – the usual questions that are already posted here:

1.Why MBA
2.Why Kellogg
3.How will you contribute
4.Questions about my work and extracurricular activities
5.A few behavioral questions and a few interesting questions – common misconception that people have about you, a time when you were intellectually challenged, anything that you have done at the creative front.
The behavioral questions were highly focused on team work and leadership experiences and style. Lastly, the interview ended with the following two questions – anything that you would want to add and any questions for me. Hope this helps someone. All the best to everyone!

Kellogg MBA Interview Question – 11

Hi guys,

I had my off-campus interview today in Delhi (India). Quite the usual Kellogg interview everyone speaks about. We had a general discussion for a little over an hour. I got asked the standard questions:

1.Walk me through your CV
2.A couple of questions on some of the consulting engagements I had mentioned
3.What’s the size of team managed? How do I effectively manage a geographically dispersed team? (My reports are spread across India, Poland & China)
4.Why MBA? Why now? Why the 1-year program?
5.How does Kellogg fit into my career objectives?
6.What’s my leadership style?
7.How do I manage conflicts in my teams?
8.How will I contribute to Kellogg?
9.How would your batchmates at Kellogg describe you as a person? What unique aspects will I bring to the community?
10.Any Questions for me?

In between, he kept on sharing his perspectives on how Kellogg truly differentiates itself from the other B-Schools when it comes to team bonding, companionship, collaboration etc. I could clearly see the passion and emotional connect he had with Kellogg. Truly inspiring!

Kellogg MBA Interview Question – 12

I had my Kellogg interview on campus with an admissions committee member. It was 35 minutes long and very cordial.

1.Tell me about yourself.
2.Why did you choose your undergraduate school? Why did you choose your major?
3.What has been your experience leading teams at work?
4.Tell us about a time when you resolved conflict on a team.
5.What are your favorite activities outside of work?
6.Why Kellogg? Why MBA? Why now?
7.Tell us about any experience you may have working with colleagues abroad. What are the challenges / benefits?
8.Do you have any questions for me?

I am still unsure of how Kellogg factors in interviews in their admissions process considering they interview 90% of their applicant pool. Anyway, we shall see. Hope this post helps.

Kellogg MBA Interview Question – 13

Hello all,

I had my Kellogg MBA interview last evening and was surprised that the interview was completed in 20 mins. The interviewer, who was a staff walked in and started right away (no chatting or light conversation). I was asked walk me through my resume, a few behavioral questions and then she asked me if I had any questions for her. I was a bit shocked, since we had just started. I am assuming that, since my interview was past the deadline, everyone must have been busy ( Making myself feel better). Not sure what to make of this. My essays are stellar and I have a 670 GMAT with 8 years of Work Experience.

Kellogg MBA Interview Question – 14

I am an International applicant and I had my off-campus interview last week with a former Kellogg student. Since it was a blind interview, you just need to talk about yourself and be confident (my advice: rehearse a lot). The conversation was flowing and she gave me great insights of the school and its atmosphere. Our discussion really made me excited about joining the school! Now it’s the wait and see game but I look forward to the results!

Best of luck to all of you
