Michigan Ross MBA – Introduction
The theme of the MBA program at the Ross School of Business is action-based learning. Many schools give lip service to this buzzword, but Michigan lives it with the most extensive consulting projects with outside organizations offered by any business school in the world.
First year core features four seven-week terms: Fall A, Fall B, Winter A, and Winter B. The first three terms provide a broad grounding in the fundamentals of business. In the fourth term, students put the core to work in the Multidisciplinary Action Project (MAP) course, combining analytical tools with teamwork and leadership development on a consulting project with an actual firm or organization.
For MAP, students are assigned to five-person teams and then lent to a company and a project that starts in the third week of January. There are 150 possible projects to choose from, with a bewildering array of global companies, for the 500 first-year students. This isn’t part of a course and the experience is not optional, as it often is at other business schools. It’s mandatory, intense, all-consuming, and occupies your complete time for seven straight weeks. Each team has two faculty advisers who act as coaches on the project.

Use these prompts to show who you are as a person through personal examples and illustrations. The adcom wants to know you beyond your resume and professional accomplishments.
Group 1: Use the first prompt to talk about something you are proud of, an accomplishment or your uniqueness. The second prompt is about what value you created for your community or how you contributed to a social cause. Use the third prompt to highlight your unique values that make you stand apart from the rest of the people.
Group 2 is mostly situational questions. Prompt 1 is about a situation where you went out of your comfort zone for a cause that you believed in. Use Prompt 2 to talk about a significant failure that you faced and what did you learn from it. And in the last prompt, talk about a challenging situation, how you overcame it and what results you obtained.
When writing these prompts, a simple structure to follow is the STAR methodology
Situation → Task → Action → Result.
Start with describing the situation or problem at hand to give a background to the reader. Explain what was expected out of you to do and the consequence of the task. Explain what actions you took and what were the result of your actions.
