MBA Sloan MBA – Introduction

MIT Sloan’s two-year MBA Program is comprised of a combination of case studies, team projects, lectures, live case discussions, interactions with industry leaders, and hands-on lab classes. Throughout the first-semester core, students build the foundation of their MIT Sloan education. Working with a team of five or six classmates, they gain fundamental skills through required course work in economics, accounting, managerial communication, business statistics, and organizational processes (as well as an elective in either strategic marketing or finance).

Only one-semester long, the core allows students freedom and flexibility in pursuing their personal goals throughout the rest of the program. And students enjoy the company and intellectual stimulation of their cohort — a group of roughly 60 students (made up of 10-12 teams) who take their courses together.

The quality of the MBA experience here is second to none and the prestige of the school’s top employers tends to confirm it. In 2015 (the 2016 employment report was not yet available in late November), the major hirers of Sloan MBA talent were McKinsey & Company (31), Amazon (22), Boston Consulting Group (14), Google (14), Deloitte Consulting (13), Bain & Company (12), Apple (7), Microsoft Corporation (7), Parthenon-EY (6), Boeing (5), and Morgan Stanley (5). That’s a gold-plated outcome for sure. For more details Click Here…

MIT Sloan MBA Application Essay Tips

Essay 1: MIT Sloan seeks students whose personal characteristics demonstrate that they will make the most of the incredible opportunities at MIT, both academic and non-academic. We are on a quest to find those whose presence will enhance the experience of other students. We seek thoughtful leaders with exceptional intellectual abilities and the drive and determination to put their stamp on the world. We welcome people who are independent, authentic, and fearlessly creative — true doers. We want people who can redefine solutions to conventional problems, and strive to preempt unconventional dilemmas with cutting-edge ideas. We demand integrity and respect passion.

Taking the above into consideration, please submit a cover letter seeking a place in the MIT Sloan MBA program. Your letter should conform to a standard business correspondence, include one or more professional examples that illustrate why you meet the desired criteria above, and be addressed to the Admissions Committee (300 words or fewer, excluding address and salutation).

This is a cover letter that is addressed to the school. Use the first 100 words to give a brief description of your professional experience, highlighting your leadership and management experience, mentioning awards or any outstanding results that you may have achieved in your professional life

Then use the next 100 words to focus on any experience that resonates with the values – independent, authentic, determination or fearlessly creative. While narrating the experience a good framework to use is the Star Methodology Situation – Task – Action – Result. Give a brief description of the situation so that the reader gets some context or background, Explain what actions you specifically took and what are the results as a consequence of you taking those actions.

Use the last 100 words to give a concluding statement as to why MIT Sloan is the best fit for you.An easy way to structure can be to break it down across three buckets –

  • Inside the class – what excites you the most about the MIT Sloan MBA program in regards to the academic curriculum? Is it a particular specialization? Range of Electives? Quality of Professor?  Feel free to name drop a few.
  • Outside the class – outside of the academics, how do you plan to make the most of the opportunities available at MIT Sloan? Clubs? Networking event? International exchanges? Leadership seminar? Speak with Alum, current students and find specifics which perfectly aligns with your needs to achieve your goals in a particular industry or function.
  • Outside of campus – show how the overall school brand, alumni network which you would carry and be a part of long after your campus stint can help you build a successful career in the long term.

Summarize your entire essay in 3-4 lines and confidently portray how you believe the MIT Sloan MBA program is the perfect next step or logical step for you to achieve your career goals and how you would be a great fit and valuable addition to the class if selected.
